At midnight half the world sings Auld Lang Syne, a song about old friends in general. A song about your own twelve months — who arrived, who you missed, what you survived and what you are hoping for — turns that minute into one that belongs to your family or your friends.
Jot down who is celebrating, the highlights of the year, a toast you would make and one wish for the next one. AI writes the lyrics, composes the music and sings it with real vocals in about a minute. Play it right after the countdown, send it to people celebrating in other time zones, or seal it as a gift that opens on 1 January.

“An upbeat New Year's Eve song for our group of friends: Maya, Tom, Aisha and Callum. This year Maya moved to Bristol, Tom finally finished his first half-marathon, Aisha got the job in Singapore and Callum adopted a one-eyed cat called Captain. We're glad to leave behind the flooded flat in March. Dance pop with a countdown, chorus “here's to the friends who stayed”.”
A month-by-month line or two: January's broken resolution, the summer trip, the October surprise.
The year's big firsts — first home, first job, first steps, first marathon, first time hosting the party.
The people who made the year: name them, from the new baby to the friend who moved back to town.
One thing you are glad to leave behind, said with a wink: the flooded kitchen, the endless commute.
Resolutions you might actually keep, or the funny ones you know you won't.
A toast for the chorus: something the whole room can shout together at midnight.
Local customs: first-footing in Scotland, twelve round fruits on the table in the Philippines, fireworks over the harbour in Sydney.
A wish for next year, specific to each person: a calmer job for Dad, a good exam result for Maya.
Ten, nine, eight — Maya, grab my hand,
nothing this year went the way we planned,
here's to the friends who stayed, here's to what's ahead —
three, two, one, and a whole new year to spend!
New Year means different things in different homes. For a house party, choose upbeat pop or EDM with a big chorus and a countdown in the lyrics. For a family dinner where people look back, a warm acoustic song with one line for each person fits better. If the year was hard, it is fine to say so: a song that names the difficult months and ends on hope is often the one people play again in February. Whatever the mood, end on the wish for the year ahead — it is the line people remember.
Names, memories, the mood you want. Skip anything you like.
