A song about your pet, with their name

Your dog's ridiculous zoomies, your cat's 5 a.m. alarm call, the rabbit who rules the house — turned into a song you will sing to them for years.

Every pet owner already sings to their animal. It is usually a made-up tune with the dog's name repeated eleven times, performed in the kitchen when nobody is watching. A pet song gives that tune proper lyrics and a real voice — and it is one of the happiest songs you can make, because the material writes itself.

Choose the pet template or just tell us about them: the name and the six nicknames, the breed, the habits, the thing they stole last week. Melodo writes the lyrics, composes the music and sings it with real vocals in about a minute, with cover art too. Make one for their birthday or gotcha day, for a new puppy, or simply because the cat deserves an anthem.

Biscuit Barrel

Ukulele folk pop, playful, light, whistling · 2:28

“A cheerful folk-pop song about my scruffy terrier mix Biscuit, rescued from a shelter three years ago. Nicknames: Biscuit Barrel and Sir Biscuit of the Sofa. He steals sandwiches straight off plates, snores like a tractor, and dances in circles when he hears his lead. He loves the park, tennis balls and our neighbour's cat, who hates him. Chorus with “Biscuit”, calling him my scruffy little sunshine with a very big bark.”

What to put in a song about your pet

1
Their full name and every nickname — “Biscuit”, “Biscuit Barrel”, “Sir Biscuit of the Sofa”.
2
The breed or the mix, and what they look like: one floppy ear, a white sock, a tail that never stops.
3
Their daily crimes: the stolen sock, the toast off the counter, the plant knocked off the shelf.
4
Their routines: the window seat at 4 p.m., the dance at the sound of the lead, the bath-time disappearing act.
5
How they came to you — the shelter, the litter, the stray who simply moved in.
6
Their best friend in the house, human or animal.
7
A gotcha day or birthday, if you celebrate one.
8
For an older or departed pet: a gentle song about the years together and the spot that is still theirs.

How a pet's chorus could sound

Oh Biscuit, Biscuit, champion of the couch,
thief of every sandwich, king of every pouch,
you snore like a tractor and you dream of the park —
my scruffy little sunshine with the very big bark.

Fun ways to use a pet song

Gotcha day or birthday. Play it while they get their special dinner; record the head tilt.
A video for their fans. Make a lyric video from your own pet photos and post it to reels or stories — the internet runs on pet content for a reason.
A gift for another pet owner. Your sister's new kitten, your neighbour's old retriever: a song about their animal is a present people never expect.
A new arrival. Welcome a puppy or a rescue with a song about the first week home.
A goodbye. If a pet has died, a soft acoustic song about their best days can help the family, children especially, remember the happy years.

Folk, rap or a lullaby?

A cheerful folk or acoustic tune fits most pets and is easy to sing along to. A hip-hop track works brilliantly for a pet with attitude — a cat who owns the street, a chihuahua with big-dog energy — with their crimes listed in the verses. A children's song style is perfect if the kids will sing it, and a slow lullaby suits an old dog who mostly sleeps now. Tip: the more specific and slightly absurd the details, the funnier and more loved the song will be.
